Iron Ore Mining Museum in Częstochowa
The Museum of Iron Ore Mining in Częstochowa presents the history and development of iron ore mining in Poland. Location of the Museum is strongly connected with the geology of the region, as Czestochowa is situated in the middle of an ore-bearing strip extending from Zawiercie to Wieluń (area of about 800 km2) and since 14th century the place has played the central role of mining and metallurgy industry. The reasons for that may be seek in fact that in the west of the Jurasic Upland the iron ore deposits popped up directly to the surface, and in the east they get submerged in limestone formations. Mined ores were smelted giving the ground for iron extraction and high prospect for metallurgy industry of the region.
As such, the Museum of Iron Ore Mining, which is also listed on the Route of Technical Historic Monuments of the Silesian Voivodeship, gives us unique opportunity to befriend with all the historical methods and tools used for iron ore mining.
